Guest of Honour 2009 - Ineke Hans

Ineke Hans from the Netherlands will be Guest of Honour at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2009.
This is the sixth consecutive year in which Fair has invited a renowned international designer to create
a lounge in the entrance hall of Stockholm International Fairs.

“We are delighted to welcome Ineke Hans. Her form of expression is personal, and she takes a very grounded,
sincere approach to design”, says Charlotte Wiking, Event manager for business development and international
relations at the Stockholm Furniture Fair/Northern Light Fair.

Ineke Hans has acquired a distinct identity as a designer whose work includes features of a sculptural nature.
Her design is described as unique in its diversity and creativity, with touches of humour and sensuality.
At the entrance area Ineke Hans designed a 240 m2 lounge.

“I looked at it as a space to relax and to reflect. When I go to fairs most of the time I enjoy watching what's
new and what's happening. But very often it gets me puzzled as well, realising the enormous amounts of
products we add to this world. I think I might be the kind of designer who can truely be upset by this. At the
same time I absolutely love my profession and plan to keep on going for a while. If I add any product to the
world we live in today, I think there should at least be any innovation involved. Innovation can be on a material
or technical level but also on a functional, social or emotional level,” says Ineke Hans.

“In the lounge some issues are raised in texts on the wall. This is absolutely not ment to preach but more an
insight in the questions that I ask myself every now and than. On an other level the lounge is a showcase of my
work and an installation; playing a game with domestic environments and cool and dark scandinavian winter. In
the first place its an area to experience and to enjoy!”

Ineke Hans will will be involved in design discussions and give a presentation about her work at the fairground
and the Dutch Embassy in Stockholm on 4 and 5 February.
